Pilgrims

Today, whether seeking outdoor adventure, a chance to escape from the monotony of life or searching for something deeper – many people are still making their way along the ancient pathways to pay homage to Saints local and national. In Staffrordshire, we have our very own newly re-created pilgrimage route ‘The Two Saints Way’ as well as many other place of spiritual and religious significance.

The Olde Peculiar is located close to the Two Saints Way and make the perfect resting place for those needing to rest their weary feet!

Two Saints Way

This is a new 92 mile pilgrimage route which has been recreated between the Cathedral cities of Chester and Lichfield. It has been set up in such a way as to recover some of the aspects that were important in medieval pilgrimage but also to apply them in a contemporary fashion. The route can be walked in either direction. If you walk from Chester to Lichfield the easier walking is at the beginning and you have time to prepare for the rather hillier sections in Staffordshire. However if you walk particularly between October and March, the views are often better with the sun behind you in the south from Lichfield to Chester. The route is now 90% signed and you will find the distinctive waymarks featuring the cross of St Chad if you are walking from Chester to Lichfield and the goose of St Werburgh if you are walking from Lichfield to Chester.

The Olde Peculiar is situated very close to Cannock Chase where the route crosses over the chase.

You are invited to come and discover it for yourself. On arrival you will receive a warm welcome and a free Pilgrim Guide to guide you round the Cathedral.
