Introduction
Set amidst the Staffordshire countryside in the popular village of Armitage with Handsacre, minutes from the cathedral town of Lichfield,

The Olde Peculiar Public House is a historic building situated in the village of Armitage with Handsacre. A perfect place to stay whether you are visiting for business, leisure or visiting family. We are ideally placed for exploring the regions’ many attractions. The Arboretum at Alrewas, the Historic town if Lichfield with its Cathedral and Cannock Chase Woodlands are all within easy reach.

The Bed and Breakfast rooms are in an annex building 20 steps away form the rear entrance to the Public House. We offer 2 twin en-suite rooms, which are on the ground floor and a family en-suite room which is on the 1st floor with 20 steps leading up to it. Breakfast is taken in the public house, which has 2 steps down leading into the building, however a ramp is available on request for wheelchair users.

Pre-Arrival

  • You can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.transportdirect.info; simply enter your postcode and ours, which is WS15 4DP to get directions.
  • The nearest railway stations are Rugeley (3.90 mile, 9 minutes), Lichfield Trent Valley (6.3 mile, 13 minutes) and Lichfield City (7.30 miles, 13 minutes) Taxis are available at the station.
  • The Arriva bus 825 runs between Stafford – Rugeley – Lichfield and stops 125 steps away from the B&B – ask the driver for the stop on The Green at Handsacre. Arriva can be contacted on 0871 200 22 33 or http://www.arrivabus.co.uk for up to date timetable information.There is no shelter or seating.
  • The pavement on the street leading to the B&B is tarmac.

  • Car Parking and Arrival
  • Parking for the B&B is shared with the Public House. There are 26 spaces.
  • The car park is rough tarmac and is well lit until midnight.
  • There is a very slight ramp between the car park and the block paved yard leading to the B& B Rooms and the Public House.
  • The 2 twin ground floor rooms are accessed from the block paved yard and the door is 813mm/32inch wide.
  • The family room is accessed form the block paved yard, up 20 steps. The front door is 713mm/28inch wide.
  • Assistance can be given with luggage.


Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed in the public house where they are asked to register. There are 2 steps down leading into the building. A ramp is available on request for wheelchair users.
  • Seating is available.
  • The flooring is quarry tile in the fist instance leading onto carpet.
  • The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting and wall lights.
  • A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request.
  • Guests are shown the breakfast room and their bedroom.

Bedrooms

  • There are 2 bedrooms with twin beds, on the ground floor, with step free level access from the front door. On the first floor there is a family room which has a double bed in one room, a single bed in another room and a bed settee in the living room.It is reached by 20 stairs from the block pave yard.
  • The doors to the ground floor twin bedrooms are 813mm/32ins wide.
  • Furniture can be removed or rearranged.
  • The height of the beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is 573mm/22.5inch.
  • The rooms are lit by overhead lighting. Bedside lamps are also in each room.
  • Our bedrooms have good colour contrast between the floor walls and doors. The carpets are short pile.
  • Bedding is non – feather.
  • All rooms have a digital television with remote control.
  • Alarm clock – available on request.
  • Iron and ironing board available on request.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)

  • All rooms have en-suite bathrooms.
  • Ground floor bathrooms – The door opening to the bathroom is 815mm/32ins. There is a step up of 140mm/5.5ins to get into the shower. The toilet height is 410mm/16ins. The wash basin height is 815mm/32ins.
  • First floor bathroom – The door opening to the bathroom is 713mm/28ins. There is a step up of 153mm/6ins to get into the shower. The toilet height is 410mm/16ins. The wash basin height is 815mm/32ins.
  • The rooms are lit with overhead lights and a fluorescent light over the mirror.
  • Non-slip flooring is in the ground floor rooms an vinyl in the 1st floor room.
  • Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors
  • There are no public areas in the B&B annex.

Public Areas – Lounge

  • The Public House (where breakfast is taken) is situated on the ground floor 20 steps away from the ground floor bedrooms. and 45 steps away from the first floor room.
  • The first entrance door is 940mm/37inch followed by a second door of 865mm/34inch.
  • There are two steps leading down to the main bar. The first step is 100mm/4inch and the second is 178mm/7inch. A ramp is available on request.
  • There is a further step into the breakfast room of 64mm/2.5inch.
  • The Public House has a mixture of seating, bench seats, bucket seats with arms and stools.
  • Lighting – The premises has large windows providing ample natural light during day light hours. Wall lights and overhead lights and lamps provide light at other times.
  • The flooring on entrance is quarry tiles which leads on to short pile carpet.

Public Toilet

  • The Public toilets are situated at the rear entrance of the Public house.
  • Ladies – There are 2steps up to the toilets. The first one is 153mm/6inch and the second is 127mm/5inch. The door width is 712mm/28inch. The hand wash area is carpeted and the toilet area tiled. the doors into the toilets are 712mm/28inch wide. There are no handrails in either toilet cubicle. The Sinks are 825mm/33.5inch high. the toilets are 444mm/17.5inch high.
  • Mens – The entrance into the mens is level and tiled. The entrance door is 698mm/27.5inch wide which leads to the urinal and hand wash area. There is one toilet with an entrance of 685mm/27inch. The toilet height is 406mm/16inch. There are no handrails in the toilet cubicle. The sink is 864mm/34inch high.

Dining Room

  • Dinning can take place anywhere in the Public House. Once in there is level bar area, which has areas that are quarry tiled and short pile carpeted. At one end of the building is a room which has a step down of 64mm/2.5inch which is short pile carpeted. (This is generally where breakfast is taken). At the other end is a room which has a step of 242mm/9.5inch which is short pile carpeted.
  • We are able to cater for varying dietary requirements. Please advise us when making a booking.

Garden

  • There is a paved patio area which is level with the ground floor rooms.
  • Tables and chairs are available on the patio.

  • Free WiFi Internet access is available.
  • The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit is 15 miles away and the nearest Doctors surgery is 1 mile away. Please let us know if you require further information about these.
  • We welcome trained assistance dogs. A water bowl is available just outside the front door for assistance dogs and can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary.
